The wind had died down a little from yesterday and it was a beautiful morning. I had to check out of the Hotel. Even though the rooms were small, I could not fault them in any other way. Service was exceptional, the place was very clean and the staff were very friendly and efficient. I look forward to staying there again after our trip to Poland and Stockholm. It’s called the Z Hotel, Shoreditch. The WiFi is perfect and the TV has all the Sky channels which spoils you for choice. They also provide some toiletries, coffee and tea in the rooms plus a bottle of water. All this for $250 for 2 nights is a bargain in London!
After spending time blogging and packing up, I headed to Fenchurch street to meet Scott where we had lunch and then I played the tourist, while Scott went back to work. I trotted on down to the Tower of London and got caught up with hundreds of slow moving school groups……teens are the same everywhere! I walked across the Tower Bridge when my phone died so I could not take any more pictures. I went back to Accenture and sat in the foyer while I charged my phone and googled how to stop the battery drain on my iPhone. All dealt with in time for Scott and I to catch the train from Liverpool Street station to Stansted airport. It was a nice ride through the countryside to one of the busiest airports in Britain. This is where most continental flights are flown from. The sea of people was like a cattle yard being moved along and finally we got through security and then had to catch a train to the boarding gate. We boarded Ryan Air and flew out at 6pm. We lose an hour and will arrive in Kraków at 9.30pm. There were no Bucks parties on the flight, only a whole lot of well behaved Poles!
But there was a child who cried for about 30 minutes straight…..we pitied the poor guy placed in the seat next to the baby. It got darker as we travelled across Europe and the Bloody Marys helped us relax.

We land at Kraków T2 terminal and once we got our luggage we had to find T1 car park for the hire car. Thrifty was booked. But……we didn’t have international licenses but found out that in Poland to hire a car you need one. As we were completing the paperwork, I was becoming increasingly uncomfortable about having no insurance and having to sign a document which admits full liability. Also we would be required to pay double the holding fee which came to $1600AUD. I started thinking that if the car was stolen then we would potentially have to buy a new car. What if someone was watching and would take advantage of this situation. I also was concerned that they did not make this clear when I booked in January. We didn’t foresee this because Germans recognise an Aus license, so does Czech Republic and Austria, Bulgaria….after some enquiring we also found out that if the Polish police pulled us over and we only had Aus licenses then we would have the car confiscated……..all too risky in my eyes so we pulled out of the deal at the last minute and caught a cab to our lovely apartment in Stary Miasto, 25 Tomasz street, Kraków.
It was now after 10pm and we had to find dinner. We walked around, past many bars and partying people but the good restaurants were closed and the only options were Pizza or kebabs……not a desirable option. Luckily there was a place called Bobby’s Burgers a few places down from our new home that served healthy options. You build your burger and then can choose a healthy option ‘go green’ which means no bun! Apparently this is a worldwide trend. The burgers were great and we had a couple of lagers. I bought a. Bottle of Zybrowka White vodka for approx $12AUD.
So tomorrow we have to book the train to Zakopane and investigate getting around Poland to honour our bookings and commitments. Lubin by Saturday, Gdansk by Wednesday. So a new adventure begins!
Good luck trying to get around and say Hi to the Kiemski’s!! xo

Michele (sorry this is the only way I know how to post) : That really sucks about the car thing. I hope you didn’t lose out any money, they really should have made it clearer for you. As you said though, technical difficulties. Make sure you message Amadaeusz and ask him the approximate pricing for taxis so you know if you are getting an honest cab driver. And yes, please give all of the family my love!! So glad you are both still having a good time xxxxx
